Study Says: Kids increasingly influencing parents’ buying decisions !

Parents are asking their kids for opinions before buying things, according to a new study.

Almost 40 per cent of the parents would consider their kids’ opinion but at least 20 per cent of parents would definitely consider their children‘s opinion, a study by Cartoon Network (CN) channel said here today.

“Kids continue to influence household decisions of purchase when it comes to white goods, with an average of 22 per cent parents definitely considering their kids’ opinions and an average of 44 per cent parents who may consider them,” it said.

Almost 23 per cent of parents who participated in the survey said they would definitely consider their kid’s opinion while purchasing a bike, while 44 per cent said they may consider it.

For whitegoods like refrigerators, nearly 46 per cent of parents said they may consider their kids’ opinion, while 21 per cent said they would definitely consider their kid’s choice before buying the product.

In case of microwaves, 40 per cent of the parents said they might consider their child’s opinion and 20 per cent said they would buy the product using the kid’s opinion.

The survey had a sample size of 3,700 parents with children from the age group of 4-14 years and 7,000 kids across 26 cities.

In terms of pocket money, the report found that 56 per cent of kids receive an average pocket money of Rs 275 but only 37 per cent of the kids save it. Further, 53 per cent kids received gift money with the average annual gift money being Rs 799.

The report also found that Nagpur is the city, in which kids receive the least pocket money (Rs 100), while in the North it is Rs 700.

When it comes to savings, only 37 per cent kids who receive pocket money said they save a part of the amount.

Piggy banks was the most preferred way of savings, followed by keeping the amount with parents.


Google releases new Android distribution stats, Jelly Bean up to 6.7 percent!!

Google has updated its Android distribution stats on its Android Developers site, and not a big surprise that the standings haven’t changed much from the previous stats. However, Google’s latest Android Jelly Bean platform has grown two-fold form last month.

According to Google’s Android distribution stats,Jelly Bean (including both Android v4.1 and v4.2) have 6.7 percent share, up from 2.7 percent at the November-start. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich has also seen similar growth, posting 27.5 percent in December, up from 25.8 percent.

Talking about the pre-ICS versions, Android 3.0 Honeycomb struggled at 1.6 percent share. Android 2.3 Gingerbread, however, continues to be the top Android OS with 50.6 percent share of all Android devices. The figures are though lower from the 54.2 percent share that was posted in November. Other older Android versions, Android 2.2 Froyo is at 10.3 percent, Android 2.1 Eclair with 2.7 percent, Android 1.6 Donut with 0.3 percent and Android 1.5 Cupcake at 0.1 percent. Most handset makers are gradually revealing their Jelly Bean update schedule, while many are still rolling out the ICS updates. It may take a while for the new Android versions to have their share spike in the near future. Next year, ICS is likely to be dominant while we may have small number of devices running on Android 5.0, which is being dubbed as Key Lime Pie

Survey Says: Professionals prefer short, frequent holidays!

With mounting work pressure, Indian professionals, now a days, are preferring short and frequent holidays rather than long vacations, says a survey.Interestingly, many respondents opined that even short breaks many times turns out to be more stressful due to work pressure, according to a survey by holiday service provider Expedia.

As per the survey, more than one out of five Indians prefer small weekend trips over long vacations as their work pressure allows only short trips.In comparison, 17 per cent of those polled from developed countries such as US, UK, France and Italy liked short getaways.Globally, majority of travellers (45 per cent) prefers one long vacation and several short holidays.It further said that work pressure has increased to an extent where Indian employees are not able to be away from work for long.Their preference has shifted to long weekends of 3-4 days taken three or more times during the year than one consolidated long leave.

“Vacations play an important role in relaxing and re-energising the employees while enhancing their motivation and productivity,” Expedia India Marketing Head Manmeet Ahluwalia said.The survey said 12 per cent of respondents take two days into a vacation to completely switch off work.

Besides, another 12 per cent of people surveyed said that they couldn’t forget work throughout the vacation while 4 per cent respondent said that they start celebrating a vacation half way into it. “In India, while the bosses have softened their stance on leaves from last year.

The median numbers of leaves given have dropped significantly from 25 in 2011 to 20 this year.

“Indians still rank second globally in the number of people logging in during vacation with 47 per cent checking regularly and 39 per cent checking sometimes.

The study is an annual analysis of vacation habits across 22 countries and was conducted online by Harris Interactive among 8,687 employed adults in September and October 2012 on behalf of in North America, Europe, Asia, South America and Australia.
