Samsung Galaxy S Advance getting the Jelly Bean update in Jan 2013 !

Samsung has said that the Galaxy S Advance will receive the Jelly Bean update in January 2013.

The report comes from Samsung’s GermanFacebook page. Running the text through Google translator, we got the following. “Dear fans, more and more devices will now receive the update to Android Jelly Bean. Even the Galaxy S I9070 Advance gets this and is available in January on gravel or over-the-air is available.” Unfortunately, there is no concrete release date and we aren’t sure if the update will bring Android 4.1 or Android 4.2. When you pick up a Samsung Galaxy S Advance, it runs Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread straight out of the box. The fact that the phone will receive the Jelly Bean update has just prolonged its life in the hands of the users. Samsung Galaxy S Advance getting the Jelly Bean update in Jan 2013 Samsung has a long list of smartphones that will receive the Jelly Bean update. The devices includes the Samsung Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note, Galaxy S Advance, Galaxy Music, Galaxy S II LTE, Galaxy Chat, Galaxy Ace 2, Galaxy Beam, Galaxy Ace Plus, Galaxy Mini 2, Galaxy S Duos, Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (Galaxy Tab 2 310), Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and Galaxy Note 10.1 (Galaxy Note 800). 5 per cent Ethanol blend compulsory for petrol in Dec 2012!

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has issued a directive that makes it mandatory for all the state-run oil refining companies to blend ethanol with petrol to the tune of 5 per cent. This is being done to reduce India‘s dependency on fossil fuel imports.

Ethanol is also cheaper than petrol, so the losses that the oil companies suffer should be lower thanks to the new directive. The companies have been blending ethanol with petrol for a while now but there has been no clear rule to this effect.

Most petrol cars sold in India are already E10 ready, which means they can take up to a 10 per cent blend of ethanol in their fuel. This is important because ethanol is corrosive to rubber parts, so the life of parts like rubber hoses and gaskets will be shortened if the engine isn’t adapted to take the right mix of ethanol. On the bright side, ethanol has a higher octane rating then regular fuel, so you can expect an infinitesimal increase in power from your petrol car!

Microsoft Releases Campaign To Ridicule Google!!

Microsoft took its rivalry with Google to next level by its latest smear campaign the search giant, saying “Google is a lousy holiday shopping guide.”

Microsoft started the attack on Wednesday with a marketing campaign targeting the recent changes in the way Google operates the section of the search engine devoted to shopping results. This change has made the merchants to pay Google to have their products listed in the shopping section.

In its new ad the Redmond based company contends that the Google’s new approach betrays the longstanding commitment to provide the most trustworthy results on the Wednesday, even if it means some dents into its revenue. To nail its point straight, Microsoft warned the consumers about the risk of getting “scroogled” if they rely on shopping services by Google.

This campaign will be highlighted across media sections, to be telecasted in TV commercials scheduled to run on NBC and CNN and also in the news paper adds which includes The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post. And the software giant went a step further, displaying its blitz on billboards and on an exclusive new website Scroogled.com.

Google yet remains the dominant search engine and all this deriding campaign by Microsoft point at one thing; its efforts to divert traffic on its own search engine Bing, which stands a distant second. The rivalry may get thicker in coming days.

Google defends its revision as an approach to encourage merchants to provide more comprehensive and accurate information about what they are selling. “I think you just get a well-organized set of product information, ways to buy it, and really have a great experience there,” CEO Larry Page said during a conference call with analysts last month, reports IBN Live.

In a statement, Google said it’s pleased with the responses for its listings of 100,000 sellers. And added Google doesn’t require websites to pay to be listed in its main database, the index that provides results for requests entered into its all-purpose search box.

“Our search results are the best we know how to produce,” Brin and Page wrote in the letter. “They are unbiased and objective and we do not accept payment for them.”

The unexplained part is why Amazon, which offers some of the best deals on web, is not listed in Google’s shopping section of the search page.

“We want consumers to know, in contrast to the route that Google has pursued, we are staying true to the DNA of what a good search engine is really about,” said Mike Nichols, Bing’s chief marketing officer. “We will rank results on what’s relevant to you and not based on how much someone might pay us.”

Danny Sullivan, an Internet search expert and editor of SearchEngineLand.com who has been following Google since its inception, believes Microsoft is highlighting an important issue. “Google deserves to take its lumps on this.” And added “I have been surprised by how little attention this issue has gotten so far because it’s a 180-degree turn for Google.”

Sullivan doesn’t think Bing’s shopping results are pristine either, pointing to its partnership with Shopping.com, which requires the merchants to pay to be in the listings. While all that is true, Bing’s shopping section consists mostly of listings from merchants that haven’t paid for the privilege, said Stefan Weitz, Bing’s director.

Confirmed News: Lenovo’s IdeaPhone P770 to hit the India market in December

After its foray into the smartphone market in India early this month, China-based Lenovo has confirmed to one internet site that it will probably be launching the Lenovo IdeaPhone P770 in India this December. However, Lenovo is silent on the specifications or its cost upon launch.
What caught our attention first on the listing published on Lenovo’s Chinese website was that the IdeaPhone P770 packs a huge 3500mAh battery that the company claims will give you up to 29 hours of talk time. That means the battery on this smartphone is bigger than the 3300mAh battery on the Droid RAZR Maxx HD. What’s more, this smartphone comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box, which when combined with the huge battery, will seal the deal for most folks.

Looks quite good too.

Good Looking Smart Phone! 🙂

It will also sport a 4.5-inch IPS display and run on a dual core 1.2GHz processor. It will have 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory and come with an 8GB micro SD card. As is to be expected of smartphones these days, the P770 comes with most of the standard connectivity features including 3G, Wi-Fi, and GPS, while there is a 5-megapixel shooter at the back and a VGA shooter on the front. The device measures 133 x 67 x 11.9mm and weighs just 161 grams.
What’s most interesting about the phone though, is its price, which the site states is ¥1,699 (approx. Rs 15,150). At this price, we think the P770 might well become the smartphone of choice for long-haul travellers and gamers. But like we’ve mentioned, Lenovo is keeping mum about the price, and we can’t really be sure how much the P770 will cost in India.

We can, however, do some guessing. Lenovo recently launched five Android smartphones in India, of which four run on Android 4.0, and one runs on Android 2.3. The high-end Lenovo K860 is priced at Rs 28,499, while the Lenovo S880, which has specs a tiny bit better than that of the P770, costs Rs 18,999. The Lenovo S560 has specs inferior to the P770, but is priced at Rs 14,499. Judging by the specs alone, we can risk a guess that the P770 might cost something between Rs 15,000 – Rs 18,000. However, the big battery and Jelly Bean might just give the company incentive to hike the price.

Let’s take a look at the highlighted specifications of the Lenovo IdeaPhone P770:

  • 4.5-inch IPS touchscreen with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels.
  • 3G, EDGE, Wi-Fi,
  • GPS
  • 5 megapixel rear camera, front-facing VGA camera
  • 4GB of internal memory, expandable up to 32GB via micro SD card

Chevrolet Spark and Sonic/Aveo to get Siri Software!!

Chevrolet has announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show that by early next year, the US versions of the Chevrolet Spark and Sonic/Aveo will incorporate the Siri software. Through the cars’ standard Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, customers with a compatible iPhone (4S and newer) running iOS 6 can direct Siri to perform a number of tasks while they safely keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel. To further minimise distraction, Siri takes hands-free functionality even further with an Eyes Free mode that enables users to interact with their iPhone using nothing more than their voice while keeping the device’s screen from lighting up.

Owners simply connect their iPhone with the MyLink radio via Bluetooth, pair with the system, and use the steering wheel voice activation button to begin and end sessions with Siri in Eyes Free mode.

In the U.S., Spark and Sonic RS, owners can use Siri in Eyes Free mode to:

* Make voice-activated, hands-free calls to Contacts on their iPhone

* Play songs in the iTunes library, and even switch music sources automatically from AM/FM/XM radio to iPod mode

* Listen to, and compose and send an iMessage or text message to a phone number or anyone in saved Contacts

* Access Calendar and add appointments

* Minimise distraction even more by keeping the screen of the iPhone from lighting up, even when Siri answers simple questions such as game scores or the dates of national holidays

* While in Eyes Free mode, Siri will not provide answers to complex questions that require displaying a web page.

“It says a lot about our commitment small-car customers that Chevrolet has announced that Siri Eyes Free capability will be available in the Spark and Sonic well before the luxury brands,” said Cristi Landy, Chevrolet marketing director for small cars. “Safe, easy, reliable and portable connectivity is a top priority for our customers, and Siri complements MyLink’s existing capabilities to help deliver an incredible driving experience.”
